Calzona’s Bubble: 10.16 “We’ve gotta get out of this place” A review by @sportsfan12921

Howdy Gabblers,

Well, this one doesn’t have a lot of Calzona in it(only two scenes) but it does have some great Callie  stuff in it.   You didn’t think that Derek was going to take the sensors away without Callie putting up a fight did you?   Of course not!!!    We do see Arizona in the opening, wishing Richard a Happy Birthday.  Not nearly enough Arizona in the ep for me, but we can’t have a ton of screen time every week(sighing in acceptance as I type).

Derek gets called to a lounge to see Callie, Owen and ….. her lawyer.  Now that she and Arizona are in a much better place I truly believe that Callie fighting the end of the trial is all about her wanting to help others.  I will admit if it’s successful I can predict her at least bringing the topic up with Arizona again.  I think it’s a sign of how serious Callie is about this that when they spent time together with the kids she didn’t bring it up.   She waited until it could be done at the hospital with her lawyer present.   She does slip for a second and make a remark when Derek mentions that Zola may have kept one of Sofia’s dolls, but otherwise she is in full on doctor mode when she speaks to him.

Can we have a moment of Yay!  For a lunch in the cafeteria scene!!!  More old school!  And it’s the first scene with Calzona together.   In which Callie goes on about hating Derek and Yang is showing possible internet date (for Owen) pics to everyone.  She asks Callie and Arizona if they think a woman is hot and when Arizona says “yes, very” and bites her apple( Mark Sloan hat tip or what?)  The comment ticks Callie off and she leaves.  Now, this doesn’t get revisited in the ep, but I think it was just a matter of Callie was looking for an ally against Derek there and Arizona wasn’t going to get into it.

Derek tries to talk to Callie about the sensors and makes a diagram.  Callie tells him to stop patronizing her , makes her own diagram that describes him as the white hot center of the universe.   It also looks like a butthole, but either one works for her.   I enjoy when Callie gets to be funny while being sarcastic.   And after how serious last week was it was nice to have an episode that had so many light moments.   When we get back to them, it’s more serious.   And it would seem that there is someone else that can call Derek out when he gets a bit high and mighty and it is Callie.   When he apologizes she tells him he feels bad because he knows it’s wrong, he’s not used to answering to anyone and now can’t say “no” to the President.

Derek sets up a call to the NIH to tell them that the sensors have to be shared.  And when they tell Derek that if they don’t have the only use then he is out, he says he’ll be out.  Callie’s excitement, smile and happy dance when the NIH says they will have to find a way to share is awesome.   I will admit here that  there are times  I find Derek extremely arrogant but also at his core he’s a good guy.  I think to be a successful surgeon you have to have a level of arrogance, that you are untouchable if you will.  What I often like about him is that he can be brought back to earth.  It’s usually Mer, sometimes Richard and in this case it’s Callie.    And Derek needs that, he won’t admit it but he does need it.

Final scene, and the only other one Calzona is in together:   Richard’s surprise party.  Arizona and Mer are talking when Derek and Callie come in late.  Callie: We overthrew the government today, we’re thirsty.  So now we know the research will continue, although promo pics for upcoming eps kind of hinted at that anyway.

Again, not a lot of Calzona to talk about in this one so I wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to the great plan of doing 80′s songs covers for the second half.    “Time after Time” from 10.15 is my favorite so far, of course, considering the scenes it was for.   I’m hoping they put the collection out in an album.   I’ve often expanded my music library because of Grey’s and I find myself doing it again.

As for what I think is coming….. saw an interesting tweet reply from Shonda to a fan today.   The fan said that it was interesting that the miscarriage SL came up but hasn’t been mentioned since.   Shonda replied that they don’t reveal things for no reason and the season isn’t over yet…….    So, what do you think? Arizona with another pregnancy or do they adopt?   Hit me with your guesses!   My guess is the pregnancy route.  I think that Arizona is going to overcome her fear about that.  And yup, I’m still hoping for a legal marriage certificate as well.  :)

I want to also mention the great Crowen scene….. when he says “there is only one her”  For me that was the writers, cast ,crew and Kevin saying that to Sandra.  Because there is only one her, and Cristina Yang could only have been brought to life by the incredible Sandra Oh.   I am going to miss her so much!

So, until next week(and hope we have lots more to disect!) Stay#CalzonaStrong and stay #Grey!!!
